What Michael Vick did to those dogs was cruel and I do not approve of it in any way. But to say that he’s a horrible person and doesn’t deserve a chance to improve his life is also cruel, and I don’t approve of that in any way. Vick is not a horrible person. He was involved in a horrible activity. And he was involved with this terrible activity because of the culture of his surroundings. He was a child when he got involved. The adults who were guiding his life were involved and gave him an understanding that it was ok. It’s what he knew and it was the life he lived. And for those of you who are eager to say ‘So What! Its still a sadistic, evil thing to do.’ I say read a history book because many of our greatest American and religious heroes were involved in much more sadistic and evil acts called slavery, crusades, and terrorism. And the majority of them who were involved with these evil acts only did so because it was their culture. They were guided by adults or people they considered leaders, and it was the life they lived. They killed people (not dogs) in evil and sadistic ways. Defenseless people. People who meant them no harm. (Many of our founding fathers had slaves or did nothing to stop slavery. St. Paul of the Bible persecuted Christians before he converted. Malcolm X did horrible things to people before he converted to Islam and became a positive voice for human rights. And many of you have evil and sadistic family members who have abused minorities, homosexuals and women during their struggle for civil rights. And a few of you right now would be ashamed or convicted if your darkest secrets were exposed.) So before you begin to crucify Vick for the remainder of his life, stop and think about others whom you seem to have forgiven for their misinformed and thoughtless deeds.
Vick was wrong. He was convicted and served his time. He says he’s sorry and will do what he can to stop others from making the mistakes he made. If you are skeptical about Vick’s so-called transformation that is understandable, but be patient and wait and see. Time will tell. Protesting Vick AFTER he did his time in jail doesn’t show your love for dogs. It just shows you have a hateful or unforgiving nature. If the NFL has cleared him for employment, why is that a problem to you? To tell someone they can’t earn a living in their profession after they have served their time sounds pretty un-American to me. Do you feel he should never be employed by anyone? If he got a job at McDonald’s would you protest that also? In my opinion, protestors of Vick’s employment only demonstrates a person’s desire to hate Michael Vick and has nothing to do with their so-called love for animals. So if you are one who will never forgive him for his acts because they were cruel and sadistic, just be prepared to examine your own thoughts and motives regarding Michael Vick. And also be prepared to judge everyone from the past, present, and future in the same mannerism. Get your rest, because you have a lot of judging and hating to do.
